Join us Dragonhills for our fourth annual celebration of the fall season rain or shine. We only have a few requests; attend, participate, express, enjoy, and share in the kinship of others.
We are pleased to announce exciting changes this year: we are moving the previous S.T.A.R. Gathering from Southwest Georgia to Dragonhills Retreat, and we are also expanding the event for the greater good of the spiritual community and renaming it "Sacred Roots Festival."
Sacred Roots incorporates all of us, and where we are grounded within ourselves. No matter who you are, you are unique and bring a different root to the festival, to build a community tree like no other!!!
Our theme this year is 'Expression'...
That means Spiritually, Artistically, and Musically. This is a participatory event.
Art- We want art brought, built, and displayed for all to enjoy! We also encourage performance art, a talent show, and other happenings. This also includes FIRE! We hope to have multitudes of fire performers attending, so bring your poi, hoops, fans, whips, snakes, staffs, etc.
Music- We will have a special drum circle with a head drummer who will lead, teach, and get everyone playing. We have an awesome workshop planned that includes many instruments, and things that can be simply used as an instrument!!!
Spirituality- What you find sacred has a place here. We are not by any means going to be dueling for the two major and elder Pagan festivals held here. Sacred Roots is a chance for ALL spiritual-minded people to come share, as long as there is respect, nature-awareness, open minds, and open hearts!
STUFF GOING ON:
Workshops, classes, etc. will be announced soon. NOTE: If you teach a class (sign up here!), you will be reimbursed $10 from your admission fee *after* the class is held, as our way of thanking the class teachers. :)
Mama & Papa will be vending food out of the Kitchen, with restaurant style fare. Hours will be 8am-1pm, 3-7pm, and 10pm-1am (closed during feast). Bring your own snacks and food for in-between hours, or if you do not plan to join us at the feast.
We will have vendors! If you'd like to vend, space is limited, so please inquire to Siryn at La.Siryn@yahoo.com
In addition, a close friend and musical mentor to me (Siryn), we have Grayson Capps, with his band the Stumpknockers, straight from New Orleans. Grayson is a major-label/soundtrack singer, songwriter, and storyteller, and will be performing an acoustic set on Thursday evening, and a full set on Friday evening. We hope to have other artists as well; stay tuned for further announcements.

We'll have workshops, art, fire performance, a drumming circle with a fire pit, dancing, and live music; a ceremony to celebrate the season, and a full-blown feast Saturday evening (bring your own plates, bowls, cups and utensils). We'll close Sunday sometime with a traditional healing circle. Any volunteers? please see e-mail address below.
The festival will be at DragonHils Retreat in Carrollton, Georgia this year. The S.T.A.R. family hosting this event is an affiliation of Church of the Spiral Tree, a 5013c non-profit organization based in Camilla, Georgia. DragonHills offers plenty of room for tents, campers, and parking. There are also reasonably priced hotels within 10 miles.
A few notes: We are a recycling Earth friendly, and Leave No Trace Event. Also, this is a DRUG-FREE event and ILLEGAL substances as in DRUGS of ANY SORT are absolutely forbidden, by any and all people!!! You will be escorted off the property, and NOT allowed to come back if you break this rule! We hope the weather will be cooler but just in case, bring your bug spray as we all know how hot weather invites the pests! We are limited on the number of chairs so please bring your own, and if you have any extras please bring them too.
The site will open at 9am WEDNESDAY (all arriving on Wednesday or earlier will be charged $10 per person per day), the festival begins Thursday, September 10, at 12 noon Eastern Daylight Time, and close Sunday, September 13, at 3 pm EDT.

Scheduled Entertainment |

Grayson Capps- As a singer, songwriter, and musician from New Orleans, Grayson debuted his first album "If you knew my mind" in 2004. It was followed by four songs written and performed on the soundtrack to the movie "Love Song for Bobby Long", starring John Travolta and Scarlett Johanson. Not long afterwards, he was relocated by Hurricane Katrina, and released "Wail & Ride". Grayson then released a limited edition of acoustic tracks for the album "Songbones". His latest album "Rott 'N' Roll" featuring 'The Stumpknockers' was released last year. If you've never heard Grayson Capps, this is your chance, his music is a blend of sanctified Southern soul, howling back-country stomp and raucous roadhouse blues, with it's roots coming from lifes' experiences, and stories told, it has become known as Rott 'N' Roll! www.GraysonCapps.com

Moonstruck- When Moonstruck started out playing music, there were very few songs dedicated to the God and Goddess, Father Sun and Mother Earth and the Nature Spirits. So we began writting and collecting songs. Our songs found a home in all Earth religions and many of them became classics. Long before the movie "Moonstruck" starring Cher appeared in theaters, a band called Moonstruck was born. Our songs speak of the mysteries of the 'Old Religion' that were taught to us in times past and are now retold in song. We call them tunes of magical folklore. Moonstruck's sound is more authentic than polished, deeply heartfelt and never formulaic. From their tuneful original compositions like "The Burning" and the title tracks, to the haunting chants derived from actual rituals, these albums provide an enjoyable glimpse into an alternative music scene that may possibly be new age's next big genre. http://www.moonstruckmusic.com/
